At 800x600 resolution Windowed mode and low graphics all the way while making your computer appearance like Windows xp and look distance of 20 ft with no shades trees or grass lolol

Fatty wrote:well i overclocked mine yesterday and it only took me like 5 minutes

5 simple steps,

#1 Open your computer case by removing the screws on the back

#2 take off the fan on top of cpu

#3 remove cpu from the slot

#4 now turn your computer off and unplug it (remember to do 1-3 while computer is running)

#5 Put your cpu on top of the closest clock you see and Blaam, you have overclocked your cpu

You are welcome

i so did this yesterday, gaming and editing never were better til NOW THAANKS FATTY!

I used to run Crysis on medium graphics with a 2.7ghz dual core... I had a GTS 250 graphics card though...

I'm not going to delve into how wrong this is. Fatty addressed it adequately. A good cpu is very important. Not just for running one game, but for running several applications at the same time without hiccups. I.E. Skyrim, STEAM, Ventrilo, internet browser, itunes, hardware monitor, and any of a plethora of other applications that I have running constantly and never notice any performance drop. Also, making a statement that this "so the problem is not your processor" is impossible to prove, since you do not know his complete system specs, nor the software he has running on his computer. He didn't include what mobo he has in his computer, so you don't know what BIOS he has running on his system. I'm not going to go further into tearing this comment apart for its logical failing, because at that point, I would just be trolling, and not informing. The bottom line is, no one knows specifically what his problem is, but it doesn't matter, because with a $600-800 budget, I can make him a much better computer.

While GPU is more vital for smoothly running more current games on their highest settings, you would only do yourself a disservice by not getting something like a quad-core processor with ~3GHz of speed stock. It's called future-proofing and it is the wise-way to build a computer.

As I said before, give me some specifics and maybe a short story about what you want to play/how you want to play, and I will send you a build with links to the various components, and the logic behind each one.

I have built my own computer from parts twice, I have played around with numerous overclocking profiles, and I have helped other people with computer builds 4 times now, recently having assisted my brother in building a computer to play Skyrim on high settings. His core computer was under $800, though with peripherals (because he wanted his computer to be sexy looking on the outside, and wasn't content with generic mouse, keyboard, case [and he wanted a sexy multiple monitor display setup]) his price tag increased to ~$1300.

Anecdotal stories about how you guys are able to play with crappy CPUs and whatnot do not interest me. We are at a point in computing technology where if you are a gamer, and you are playing with a dual core CPU, you are a scumbag. You will not be able to play newer high-end games at their highest settings, or be able to multitask with various applications while in game, without seeing performance issues. I had a quadcore until this past fall that I got ~5 years ago that wasn't cutting edge, a Q6600, that I overclocked from 2.4 GHz to 3.2 with no problem. Today, that CPU is still decent, but I wouldn't buy it.

Alright buddy. Here is a Core PC Build for ~$800. This does NOT include a keyboard, mouse, nor a monitor.

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811156237

CD/DVD Burner:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827136236

HD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822152181

GPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130625

PSU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817152043

Memory:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820233144

Mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813131781

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115074

Aftermarket heatsink+fan for CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835118223

OS (if you already have an operating system, you will cut the order price by $99):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832116986

Arctic Silver Thermal Compound (This is NOT optional, stock thermal compounds are garbage):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835100007

Buying all of these things together is $895. There are $60 bucks worth of mail-in rebates, making it $835. IF you do NOT need an OS, that drops the price by an additional $99. This computer will allow you to play a game like skyrim on HIGH settings. If you were to wait 2-4 months, nVidia is coming out with their next generation of graphics cards, and you could probably get a different one that would be worlds better than the 550ti. I use a 550ti, and i can play Skyrim on high settings. The game runs smoothly, for the most part. FPS is not an issue typically, though sometimes there are random FPS drop issues that can be remedied by restarting the game client. I have, however, played the game in excess of 4 hours without issues. The 850W power supply i have included here is a certified Gold PSU, it is a stable power source, and modular, so you are only using the cables you need (this makes building the computer much simpler if you do not want to mess with wire management as much). This build includes 8GB of DDR3 memory in a dual channel configuration, which optimizes how the computer is going to allocate load just that much better. The mobo allows for dual channel memory, so when you want to upgrade to, say, 16GB, you would just buy another dual channel set of two 4GB sticks. The CPU is good for gaming, and can be simply overclocked. The heatsink and fan for the CPU are necessary if you plan on lightly overclocking, but also just for maintaining temperatures during heavy load processes, like intensely demanding games. I included a 500GB hardrive, and for it's price, I would recommend it over a smaller one, it's more than worth the price. The case I chose because it has a front intake fan, a side fan, and a rear fan. This will allow for optimal flow over the motherboard, and directly over the CPU. Getting a cheaper case, with only an intake, or only a rear fan is foolish if you plan on any intense gaming or overclocking.

Thanks for the list!
Too bad I'm dirt poor and have no money. (Literally, I have zero dollars.)

I'm not saying a processor isn't important, I'm just saying if he wants to improve FPS then a dedicated graphics card will do wonders compared to shit intel onboard graphics. I would recommend a complete overhaul, but not everyone can do that. And if he did get a graphics card then he could put that into a new system later on.(unless he is still running AGP lol)

1. Which dual core CPU do you have?
2. Is it overclocked? If so, how much?
3. Graphics cards are more than the size of their cache. You need to pay attention to clock speeds and # of processing cores. And as I stated earlier, if you wait a few months, nVidia is coming out with their next gen line, that implements the 28nm technology that the new AMD cards are also using (Though their line was rushed and is currently seeing drivers issues big time).
