My PC is constantly freezing!

Post by Consuela »

My PC seems to always be freezing, whether I am playing video games or just browsing. The screen either freezes or goes black, but the computer does not shut down because the power LED is still on and the fans are still working. Nonetheless I still have to force shut down every time this happens, which has been frequently lately.

Neither my CPU nor GPU are overclocked and my temps stay under 45 degrees, even while gaming.

Would anyone have a solution/answer as to why this could be happening?

My rig:
Intel Core i5-4670k (3.4 ghz)
CM Hyper 212 EVo CPU cooler
Gigabyte Z87X-D3H mobo
8 GB Kingston HyperX Ram @ 1600 MHz
2x 128 GB SSD (one used for Windows 8)
2 TB WD Caviar Black
Asus HD 7970
Antec HCG 750W 80+ bronze PSU

Check your video settings. Also check that every plug is in correctly (Your VGA/DVI/HDMI on your screen or internal plugs). It's really difficult to tell what the problem could be since their are many factors that can cause this.

Couple questions:
1. Did you build this yourself?
2. When was this build completed/bought?
3. When did this problem start happening?

1. Try removing your GPU and running off the iGPU in the i5-4670K. If the problem doesn't occur when you do this, then your GPU went defective or something.

2. Try resetting the BIOS to fail-safe defaults.

3. If the problem keeps occurring, check your memory (RAM). Boot into something like Memtest86, and let it run overnight to get at lest 5+ passes. If it reports errors, then your RAM may be faulty.

My Pc freezes too when I have a couple tabs open or randomply listening to music or whatever it freezes and im still able to move the mouse but if i click too many times its just freeze and ill have to force shut down, sometimes blue screen..don't know what that means. Also sometimes listening to music, watching a vid, when the computer freezes its like freeze the audio as well making it sound retarded, so have to force shut down.
also sometimes it freezes but I just give it a little time and it comes back only when the mouse is still moveable.
This happens maybe a couple times a day.
I did not built my computer. bought maybe when I was in 9th-10th grade, I graduated 2 years ago.
I have microsoft securety essentials, I do a scan on that and only the first 2 times when i downloaded it did it ever find something.
But since then its never found anything. Do full scans every other week.
