New beast, WIP

Post by MartijnV »

Im searching for parts for my new computer wich im gonna buy... I made a list today and i geuss im do some editing in it; if i find something better for it in my price range...

DELAYED, due some bad bills im forced to move the purchase to the end of February, i can purchase it now, but then i don't have that much money for the upcomming month :l so that's why it is moved to next month.

================================

Delayed again... Sigh, my dirtbike (wich i want to use in the summer to go to school) was heavily damaged last week when i was testing it for perfectionate the settings for fuel usage and such... i have to buy a new gearbox from ~ €700... and maybe more parts, i don't know how long it takes before i got the money again. so im not gonna post a date.

Getting tired of all the delay's... meanwhile im still using my old slow cheap ass computer :( :x ..... Pffffsshhtttt....

You might want to consider getting the Z97 chipset, as you may run into compatibility issues if the UEFI isn't updated.

Also, no real need for a Z series chipset if you're not overclocking or running multiple GPUs. are you going to be overclocking?

And I don't know how you're going to connect that MSATA drive.

I'd suggest going with 2x8GB as well as Intel's LGA1150 platform can't take advantage of quad-channel memory. They can only take advantage of dual-channel technologies. This way, you can upgrade your RAM in the future(although 16GB is probably overkill for most people)

Bit weak on the GPU.

For an overclockable build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/pFkHJx
Tried to go with a black/red theme. Only thing that may stand out is the SSD. I put in 750w for the ability to add another GTX 970 in the future as well as plenty of overclocking headroom.

If you've got any questions, just ask.

I don't think im gonna overclock at all, i looked at some builds, and with a 4gb videocard and 3.5-3.9GHz of the CPU from it's own, i can run with this set at least a few years, because that CPU is from the recent generation, and i can allway's decide to place a new CPU later...

But im gonna look closer for the CPU and the RAM later today when im back at home, it's allway's interesting to have a closer look at other parts :thumbup:

If you're only gaming and doing simple daily tasks, then the i5-4690 will do just fine. You can also ditch the aftermarket cooler that was in my build.

//edit, stronger gaming-oriented build with the i5-4690; no SLI upgrade: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/dJ9w8d

If you're not overclocking but do things such as video rendering, I highly recommend this chip:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646e31231v3

This is basically an i7 with no integrated graphics. Plays games and renders videos and stuff really well, at a lower cost than a typical i7-4790. Don't bother with this if you're not doing any video editing/rendering, though, as you won't see any performance difference in games.

Got a positive month, so i got some more money for the whole build.

The new components i want to put in instead of the others;

Motherboard: MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming >>> 2 more SATA-600 ports and Dual UEFI
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K >>> 4.0 GHz - 4.4 GHz >! without overclocking !<
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 970 GAMING >>> More cores, more GHZ's C> 1,14GHz - 1,279GHz M> 7,01GHz

This parts costs total around 250 Dollar more then the build with the ''old'' parts

Please let me know what you think about those, Sugestions and idea's are still welcome !

Try finding a Z97 board. The Z87 motherboards may act a bit funny if they're not updated to the lastest UEFI, and many people don't want to fiddle around with UEFI updates. There is a Z97-GD65 Gaming from MSI, and it looks quite fancy with 12 power phases for the CPU. That's a board with lots of overclocking in mind.

GTX 970 is a beast, and super power efficient. Go for it.

i7-4790k is great if you're doing stuff like video editing or CAD or other type of cpu-heavy rendering. If you don't plan to do any of that, then the i5 will perform just as well in games as the i7. Also, if you're going to be overclocking, pick up an aftermarket air cooler like the Hyper 212(if you're looking for a budget cooler) or something like the Noctua NH-D14/D15.

The Z97 is full digital audio ? or do i look at it wrong ? and the Z97 is a single UEFI, and the Z87 a double

GTX 970 is indeed a heavy duty card, for sure that one comes in this machine!

I do some video editing, so it is some welcome to have the i7-4790K,
also i want to keep ahead with specs of some big game titles releasing soon...
(think about GTAV, my goal is to play games with such big expectations wich i can play without any problems.) maybe that is a bit overkill, but still..... i geuss that is where my build is based on, so i can play games for some years without having problems due lack of specs, 3.4 GHz sounds nice, but if you can get 4.0, why not ? lol

Not too sure where "full digital audio" came up. Onboard audio will work just fine, but if you're going to do nice microphone recording you shouldn't use onboard mic in.

Gotta do something; I'll check on the dual bios in a sec.

Are you going to get an aftermarket cooler?
