I'm looking to build a whole new tower. Budget is $800-$1000.
Wants:
i5 haswell bridge or higher
at least 8 gigs or ram
1tb harddrive with some SSD
a nice graphics card, something nividia
Windows 7 for OS
strong power supply
a whole new tower is cool too.
if anyone wants to link a build that'd be cool.

Re: New computer build needed
What do you currently have that I can re-use (Looking primarily at your Mobo, RAM, Optical drive, PSU, and Case).
I'm working on something that'd clearly be over budget if I put in the graphics card I'd like to drop on it, and I'm wondering if you don't have anything decent that can keep you from settling for less than ideal parts. Thus far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/DrWKxr
I'll probably end up dropping to an older Mobo/Cpu or just settle for a lesser GPU if you don't have re-usable parts.

I don't want to reuse the mobo or the case cause they're both old as shit and the case is like falling apart. I'm willing to use the optical drive of course and i guess using the old RAM wouldnt be a problem but i was hoping to get a stronger psu since i'm shooting for a stronger gpu and cpu.soulharvester wrote:What do you currently have that I can re-use (Looking primarily at your Mobo, RAM, Optical drive, PSU, and Case).

Like I'm down as fuck to just rebuild the whole thing from scratch

Re: New computer build needed
Would this be doable, or do I need to find somewhere to cut some more corners?

edit: Just skimped on the SSD, it'd be the easiest downgrade to look over from the build, and the easiest thing to supplement in the future. 120GB would still be plenty for your Operating system and a couple large programs/games.

* These builds assume the usage of your old RAM and Optical drive
edit: Also the fun thing about building new PCs, is that generally as tech improves, the power needs from the PSU actually go down, instead of up. The second build has an estimated wattage requirement of like 410W.

Re: New computer build needed
Not much point going for a low end Z97 board with a locked CPU imo.

Also, there are plenty of places to get windows keys for much cheaper, especially if you're a student.
Would be great to know the specs of your current system as well. (mostly if RAM is DDR2 or DDR3)
//edit: Windows 7 support is ending - Windows 8 does bring some performance benefits to gaming. I suggest getting Windows 8 + StartIsBack for a Windows 7-esque experience, as well as DX12 support.
