Internet disconnects constantly

Before I get into it, I have looked at a lot of websites and solutions but none seem to want to work for me.

For almost a year now (but recently it has gotten worse) my internet keeps disconnecting every couple of seconds to every couple of minutes. Some days it is fine and some days it just goes haywire.
I have been using the same internet provider for almost 5 years so I didn't think it was their problem, so I thought maybe it was a faulty driver or hardware problem. I updated all the wireless network drivers and a couple of other solutions but still nothing. My Xbox and cellphone have no problem staying connected to the internet, only SOMETIMES does it disconnect for no reason.
I don't know why but it seems every time I launch a game, it makes the internet disconnect more often than it would if I was just using Chrome.

Before I resort to calling my provider, I want to know if you guys have any solutions to this problem.
The computer I'm on is Windows 7 Premium.

Also if you can, give ethernet a shot.

Might help to see if it's the wap/router's problem.

Charter, it's the only good provider we have in our location.
I was thinking of doing that but I'd need to pay for it since my parents won't do it. They hate me being on the internet all day as it is.
Unless they replaced it which shouldn't cost money.

Unfortunately I live with my parents and for some fucking reason, they have the router in the living room and don't want to drill holes for cables. They wouldn't want to move the router either.

Well, if your Xbox and phone have no problems staying connected, I would assume it's a WAP problem. I personally would pickup either a USB wifi stick, or a multi-function router that can be run in client mode.

You should call your provider before you go drilling holes. If they can't seem to find out what the issue is then I suggest try ethernet like Undercover said of course ask your parents before drilling holes or even pay them if you have to do it :P

God i love my Ethernet cable. The only time my internet goes out is when it's the ISP's fault or when it's -5F Outside. Really it gotten to -5F until it stopped working.

Damn, only -5? You would have no internet during the entire winter in Chicago.

My old thermostat used to use wifi to get the weather, but one time Comcast fucked up (as usual) so the thermostat wasn't heating my house and it was really cold.

I had this problem. Fixed by using ethernet for me, but it's a pretty common bug for older laptops.
