How does "telefragging" damage work?
I thought it was simple enough, but I was telefragged with 10k hp as the hale and insta-killed, but the game registered as the engineer doing 9001 damage. Help?

There was probably someone else doing damage during that time.

I witnessed this myself. He was down to 1 person left with about 10500hp when he was fragged but the frag killed him. I was a bit curious why this happened myself. There are some bugs going around right now as it is since the last big update so for all we know this is another.

If he had a sentry, level 3, then it is possible.
Someone take the exclamation mark out of my name, I'm not excited to be here.

I think that a telefrag counts as an environmental death, hence why it has the skull when it happens in the kill feed. Meaning that it's always an instakill no matter how much health you have.

Not true. I've seen bosses survive a telefrag before.-[FF]- Destinyburger wrote:I think that a telefrag counts as an environmental death, hence why it has the skull when it happens in the kill feed. Meaning that it's always an instakill no matter how much health you have.

Telefrag damage is a constant, 9001. Extra damage could be done by the sentry if it fires before you telefrag the boss.

Might be a random glitch honestly. I've had that happen to me before where the frag itself would either do the 9001 but take more from the or I get a random 10080-11000 although that was about 2 years ago. Rarely happened so I never gave it a mind.

Ok the answer is in question form, was the engi alone, was there a sentry, did the engi shoot as well were you also hit with the S/C, did the frag happen twice. I think I covered it there but there could be other things that happened. I do a lot of telefrags so these things add damage. I hope that helps some.
