Does a reward mean anything when 40% of the school does too?

Tonight I had Honors Convocation, and 40% of the senior class got Cum Laude or higher. Does it really feel special to get Cum Laude, with 40% of your class gets it.

It does, however doesn't in the real world, just when you're applying for colleges and loans/grants. Grants are thirdparties which like to know that they are putting money towards some one that is willing to actually finish a class and get a good grade.

While it is an honor to get Cum Laude, 40% of the class getting it waters it down to the level of a participation trophy
