New Build

Post by Dick_McSlick »

Sup everyone,

I'm going to be travelling long distances in the next few months, and I can't bring my gaming PC because it's too bulky. I need a compact case and parts to add up to give or take 1000 dollars. Thanks :).

How compact? I assume the smaller, the better?

Here's something to consider. Still under the $1k budget. Keep in mind that cable management with Mini-ITX is not going to be fun lol.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($189.95 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97N-WIFI Mini ITX LGA1150 Motherboard ($110.59 @ OutletPC)
Memory: A-Data XPG V1.0 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($52.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: A-Data Premier Pro SP920 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($99.73 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card ($213.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Case: Cooler Master Elite 110 Mini ITX Tower Case ($38.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Power Supply: Corsair CSM 450W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($56.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $763.23
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Thank you so much! But if I can't do a full build, could you recommend me a laptop w/ a docking station?

I'd like enough space and capability and with decent parts that could suffice with games and schoolwork together.

Well if you wanted recommendations for laptops, you should have asked for laptop recommendations.

Anyway, my recommendations :
Leveno ThinkPad T450

Solid State Drive to replace stock HDD or alternatively a Solid State Hard Drive to get both storage of a hard disk and similar speeds of a Solid State.

I'd personally stay away from a docking station at the moment if you are going for a decent machine under $1,000.

I found out I don't have space for the computer, and I'd need a laptop to take to classes anyways.
