(Xbox 360 Help) Hard Drive problems

I know this isn't computer but I have a problem with my Xbox 360 hard drive that I recently ordered.
I bought it JUST for Destiny (Which I can no longer play, get to it in a second).
I got it and played Destiny for 3 days before my Xbox froze. Upon turning it back on, all my stuff on the hard drive was corrupted.
I reformatted it and the problems started to rise.
I tried to redownload Destiny several times but it would freeze my xbox, corrupting my hard drive data once again.
Yesterday and today combined, I received the Red Ring of Death at least 5 times because the hard drive was connected.
And when it would actually load the data (not corrupted), my xbox would lag like a bitch.
Today, I just ordered another hard drive and on Tuesday, I will be sending my other one for a full refund.
Was this a good idea? Was my hard drive the problem? Why was this happening?
This is also an Xbox 360 SLIM with a SLIM 120g hard drive (obviously).
*Also, when the hard drive is not in the Xbox, everything is fine.
